video // Lemolo + The Kaleidoscope Dance

We partnered with our friends at The Warehouse to promote this special, upcoming event—Lemolo & The Kaleidoscope Dance.

This provided us a great opportunity to work with some area artists we’re particularly fond of.  The Puget Sound duo Lemolo have enchanted us since we first saw them play a cramped, mesmerizing set in the “yoga studio” at Doe Bay Fest 2011.  Since that time we’ve been excited to watch them grow in stature and are happy to take part in spreading the word on their incredible music.

event // Glitter Haus 2012

Holiday ornaments by Deeds & Petunia / Sarah Smith. Photo courtsey of Jessica Uhler Photography.

All that glitters is not gold. A lot of it is glitter, actually. And yummy frosted cupcakes. And sprinkles of fine culinary salts. And crusts of snow on tiny trees. The Art Department was pleased as punch to host Glitter Haus this year, a holiday open house featuring extraordinary artisan gifts, organized by Tacoma crafting mavens Sarah Smith of Deeds & Petunia, Laurie Cinotto of Lalalaurie and Lori Meyer of Parisienne Girl Design. Eight talented vendors decked the halls of the Berkley compound for one afternoon while locals savored cider, noshed on delicious nibbles and shopped their way through all sorts of seasonal treasures.

We believe the event was a great success, with all of the holiday bustle and none of the hustle. We love supporting local artists, and we hope Glitter Haus continues to flourish every year. You can find out more about the crafters here.

Tacoma photographer Jessica Uhler, whose work we very much admire, kindly provided us photos of the affair. (We were too busy shopping. And eating. And merrymaking.) Continue Reading

video // Goldfinch : “Beautiful Wine” + “Hood”

Tacoma band Goldfinch has a new album out—and it’s being officially released at the upcoming CATHEDRALS Tacoma.  We captured them performing one of the songs for the new album—accompanied by an original dance piece—in the historic Immanuel Presbyterian.  Also this video from the same night of their cover of Perfume Genius’ Hood:

video // Musical Plates : Kris Orlowski

Third time’s indeed a charm for Seattle’s only (and best!) mobile food tour. This time around, Kris Orlowski‘s melodic pop complemented White Moustache’s four-wheeled foodie foray up, down and all over town into some of Seattle’s best kept culinary secrets.

We’re firm believers that White Moustache gastro-guide Bryce Lathrop is one part Bacchanalian storyteller, two parts food anthropologist and three parts epicurean shaman. Meaning, he has the epicure for all that ails you, and you’ll emerge from your food coma two days later boasting some anecdotal cultural history to boot.  On this particular tour, Bryce played raconteur and the band played songs catchier than hell and everyone filled their bellies with an all-vegetarian menu.

Above is a first glimpse at the night—the video we produced of Orlowski and co.’s performance at the delicious and sparkling Grub.

Here’s another clip we created as a survey of the entire evening:

video // Cult Tacoma : Cathedrals Tacoma

The second much-anticipated Tacoma Cathedrals show, presented by the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, filled Tacoma’s Immanual Presbyterian Church with the luminous sounds of local and independent musicians. We were on hand to film the event for Cult Tacoma.

Above, check out the arresting performance of headliner David Bazan‘s Strange Negotiations as backed with an original arrangement by Andrew Joslyn and his Passenger String Quartet.

Then watch the gorgeously executed performance by Pretty Broken Things:

video // Musical Plates : OK Sweetheart

Lucky, lucky us. We again had the good fortune of joining Seattle’s only (and best!) mobile food tour as it added a local band to the mix for a night of indie pop, mouthwatering eats and a four-wheeled foray up, down and all about town and into some of Seattle’s best kept culinary secrets.

We’re firm believers that White Moustache gastro-guide Bryce Lathrop is one part Bacchanalian storyteller, two parts food anthropologist and three parts epicurean shaman. Meaning, he has the epicure for all that ails you and you’ll emerge from your food coma two days later boasting some anecdotal food history to boot. In a perfect interlacing of the senses, he invited one of our favorite up-and-coming bands OK Sweetheart to serenade a busload of gleefully gluttonous traveling tastebuds.  Bryce played raconteur and the band played songs sweeter than milk and honey and everyone filled their bellies with cupcakes, barbecue, fried pickles and heaven.

Take a look at the video above (or the shorter videos below) for a glimpse at the night.

video // Cult Tacoma : space works for Goldfinch

Spaceworks Tacoma is a project to activate empty storefronts in downtown Tacoma with art and creative enterprise.

Spaceworks recently awarded Goldfinch—one of Tacoma’s finest local bands—a three-month artists’ residency in a Hill Top practice space next to Fulcrum Gallery.

Goldfinch plans to nest down and begin recording their new album during this time as well as open up their space to live shows and Art Walk events.

We will be shooting a series of short videos for Cult Tacoma documenting Goldfinch’s Spaceworks residency.

In this most recent episode (above), we have a christening of the space—headlined by one of our favorite 2011 Doe Bay Fest bands OK Sweetheart and also including live painting by Tacoma artist Briton Sukys, a hilarious bit of storytelling from his wife Megan Sukys (of KUOW) and some lovely pickin’ and whistlin’ by Grrr Animals‘ Mike Weller.
