  • wedding film // Northwest Vintage Wedding Fair : 2013

When it comes to our wedding division The Heart Dept., we’re never ones to resist getting tantalizing close-ups of tulle and shortcake. So earlier this spring Sarah delighted in filming a little slice of the glittered, glammy spectacle that is the Northwest Vintage Wedding Fair.

    Sarah reports :

Let’s just say that there was enough vintage elegance and eye candy and antiquated treasures and sweetly scripted invitations and feathery fascinators and Broaches (with a capital B) to put an F. Scott Fitzgerald garden party to shame. I would tell you there was vintage chocolate, but thank goodness there wasn’t—just freshly made, oh so au (more…)

  • poster // Squeak ‘n’ Squawk : 2013

This is the poster we designed for the 2013 iteration of the annual Squeak ‘n’ Squawk music festival in Tacoma, Wash.  If there was a squeaking and squawking animal that was the festival’s mascot, this would be one of its feathers.

  • film // The Helio Sequence : TIMBER! Stageside Film

“This is awesome—I can’t think of a better place to be than here, right now” admitted Brandon Summers of The Helio Sequence as they headlined the Main Stage during last weekend’s TIMBER! Outdoor Music Festival in Carnation, Washington.

We’re sure few in the audience would disagree with that sentiment.  An immense summer sky was darkening, the trees looming, the stars blinking on and a sunburnt, euphoric July day of music—surrounded by Tolt-McDonald’s fir-spiked wonderland—was on the verge of culminating in an incredible set.  Benjamin Weikel’s precise, radiant percussion splintered and skittered gloriously across Summers’ vocals, guitar work and harmonica—washing over the crowed as clear and certain and abundant as the river waters nearby.

We invite you to come stage-side with us and our camera and witness a portion of Weikel’s awe-inspiring performance during Harmonica Song in this first of several TIMBER! Stageside Films!

  • photos // TIMBER! 2013

We are still glowing from the campfires, live music, good friends and glittering waters of the first annual TIMBER! Outdoor Music Festival.

Congratulations to our friends at Artist Home for so successfully creating such a beautiful weekend immersed in nature and music. From the bald eagle soaring over Quasi’s set and the sun-baked dips in the river to the late laugh riots around campfires and music always drifting through the pines—this was a weekend no one who attended will forget.

We’ve collected some of our favorite photos from the weekend below—keep an eye out for videos!

  • event // Glitter Haus 2012

Holiday ornaments by Deeds & Petunia / Sarah Smith. Photo courtsey of Jessica Uhler Photography.

All that glitters is not gold. A lot of it is glitter, actually. And yummy frosted cupcakes. And sprinkles of fine culinary salts. And crusts of snow on tiny trees. The Art Department was pleased as punch to host Glitter Haus this year, a holiday open house featuring extraordinary artisan gifts, organized by Tacoma crafting mavens Sarah Smith of Deeds & Petunia, Laurie Cinotto of Lalalaurie and Lori Meyer of Parisienne Girl Design. Eight talented vendors decked the halls of the Berkley compound for one afternoon while locals savored cider, noshed on delicious nibbles and shopped their way through all sorts of seasonal treasures.

We believe the event was a great success, with all of the holiday bustle and none of the hustle. We love supporting local artists, and we hope Glitter Haus continues to flourish every year. You can find out more about the crafters here.

Tacoma photographer Jessica Uhler, whose work we very much admire, kindly provided us photos of the affair. (We were too busy shopping. And eating. And merrymaking.) (more…)
